Free guided tours are returning to Government House in 2025, with tours dates now confirmed.

Members of the public can book tours of the State Apartments as well as tours of the gardens and grounds – including twilight garden tours during the daylight savings period.

In 2025, Government House will also be introducing additional tours open to the general public during School Holiday periods. These additional tours will provide an opportunity for young people and their parents to visit Government House outside of the usual school group tours conducted throughout the year.

These regular tours are an opportunity to experience one of Victoria’s most iconic buildings as well as the Kitchen Garden.

Built between 1872 and 1876, Government House Victoria is recognised as ‘one of the largest and most beautiful mansion houses in Australia’ and is considered to be one of the finest examples of 19th-century residential architecture, according to the Victorian Heritage Register.

The tours are led by a senior member of the Government House staff and provide a unique insight into the constitutional, ceremonial, international and community engagement duties of the Governor.

In 2024, Government House expanded its tours program as part of steps to make the House more accessible than ever before.

Community groups, including schools, continue to have the opportunity to book group tours of the State Apartments.

Bookings are essential. For more information and to book, visit the Tours and Open Days webpage.
