On Saturday 27 July, Government House Victoria opened its doors as part of Open House Melbourne, with more than 1,200 visitors taking the opportunity to explore the State Apartments.
Embracing the theme of ‘RE/DISCOVER your city’, a number of new displays were featured as part of the 2024 Open Day.
These displays included historical menus from a 1978 State Dinner for the then-Princess Beatrix and Prince Claus of Netherlands, accompanied by a bold floral display in the State Dining Room.
The Open Day offered the chance to showcase one of the largest complete collections of early Victorian furniture in Australia.
Guests were also able to view never before displayed china and tableware from the Government House collection.
In addition to the furniture displays, new information boards provided an insight into the original architectural drawings of Government House.
